Ahoy there! Welcome to the blog? Is this your first visit? Yes? No? Honestly, it doesn’t matter. I’m just making conversation over here.
I’m going to be doing something I’ve never done before: that’s right, I’m going to blog on a DAILY basis for the next… let’s see… TEN days. I can already hear you all out there: why should I give a damn? I’ll tell you why.
Because during those ten days, I’m going to be out, on the road, vacationing in…. should I say it? Should I spoil it? Or maybe I should just tell you tomorrow, to give you a reason coming back, CHOMPIN’ at the bit?
How about some hints. Yes? Yes. This place I’m in now was the first European country I ever came to. Fourteen years ago! This was also the site of my first experience with Couchsurfing; where a guy I’d never met before, and had some very light written exchanges with online, welcomed me into his house and said, “Ya can sleep on that couch right there. When I go to work in the morning, you need to get out and go keep yourself busy.”
“Keep myself busy?” I protested. “But… but smartphones haven’t even been invented yet! How the hell am I supposed to keep myself busy?”
“That’s on you, buddy,” said my host, Alex.
During that same trip, fourteen years ago, Alex introduced me to a friend, James, who ended up being a proper lad, a good dude, and who has presently welcomed me into HIS house during this trip I’m currently on.
It’s amazing meeting people, in a foreign country, at an earlier stage in your life, and then being able to see these people years later, either in the same country, in your hometown, or just some random destination throughout the world. (Like a brothel.)
Anyways, come back tomorrow and find out where I am. I’m expecting to hit three different countries during this short trip, including two new ones. Lots of observations and inane comments await.
